Fieldwork and travel
Travel Home
AusAID finances students' travel to Curtin and their return home.
- Students require a letter from the International Sponsored Students Unit before booking their return flights. Students are to return home on the most direct route, economy class and to the airport closest to their home
- Australian baggage limit is 20 kilos
- AusAID will pay for necessary visas and overnight transit accommodation
- Curtin will expect students to book their flights home at least three months prior to departure. Failure to do so will mean the ISSU will book the flight/s for the student
- Students with families are expected to pay for their families return home
- All students are expected to clear their debts prior to departure, eg. library fines
- AusAID will pay the student's Airport Departure Tax
Family Reunion
The reunion airfare provides students who have been separated from their family with an opportunity to be reunited with them once a year. Students who do not have any of their immediate family accompanying them to Australia are entitled to the reunion airfare. The first reunion airfare can be taken after completion of one year of study if students have received an 80 per cent or greater pass.
Field Work
AusAID finances airfares for fieldwork.
At placement stage it will be stated if fieldwork is required. This ensures that funds have been allocated for the cost of return airfare for fieldwork. Students and supervisors need to complete the Request for Overseas Fieldwork Assistance form before the ISSU will approve the funds for the airfare.
